What employers look for

Hands-on experience with CNC milling or turning centres, reading technical drawings, measuring with calipers and micrometers, basic setup and tool changes. Control systems vary (Fanuc, Siemens, Heidenhain, Mazak) โ€” state exactly which ones you have operated. Programming is a plus, not always a requirement.

The assessment

Technical roles are assessed through a practical or theoretical test: reading a drawing, identifying tolerances, describing your setup process, sometimes a machine test. Be ready to explain in English what machines you run, what materials you machine and to what tolerances.

How to prepare

  • Photos and videos of the machines and parts you work on
  • An English self-introduction covering machines, controls, materials, tolerances, years
  • Certificates and a valid passport

Frequently asked

Which CNC controls do European employers use?

Fanuc, Siemens and Heidenhain are the most common. Employers usually state the control in the job post โ€” mention the ones you have experience with when applying.
